What I’ve been up to (at least part of the time)…

and trying to learn about my camera & revive my green-ish thumb to provide sketching subjects.

and trying to learn about my camera & revive my green-ish thumb to provide sketching subjects.

It seems it’s been FOREVER since I posted and I’ve missed ya! Hope you’ve missed me too. (fluttering eyelashes, slightly pouty lower lip) so…last spring I coached my dd’s t-ball team and in the fall I coached her soccer team.  I picked up a little extra work from spring to fall.  THEN in October, my beloved aunt passed away after being in failing health for about 4 months, rapidly progressing the last 6 weeks.

Then life got interesting, heh heh.  I got a sinus infection then developed walking pneumonia while on the antibiotic around the first of November.  A couple of “colds” later, and in January, still having the cough and a new sinus infection, they wanted to test me for whooping cough.  The only good news there was that if it was whooping cough, I had already been treated AND I was midway of the duration.  Feeling better now but still tire easily and cough some evenings, esp. if it’s cold.

BUT I did manage to start back to being a bit creative this year 🙂 YAY!  With everything going on last year, I hadn’t had time to continue on my design team duties and honestly hadn’t done much crafting on my own.   So enjoy….

To brighten your day–Twisted Sketches Card #54

To brighten your day--Twisted Sketches Card #54

It’s a Saturday and time for another Twisted Sketches Card Sketch! Find sketch number 54 here http://www.twistedsketches.com and this week’s twist is BRIGHT. This made me think of sunshine and how a well-timed greeting could bring a smile to someone’s day.
I started with a Ruby sheet from Recollections Jewel cardstock, trimmed to 4.25″ x 11″ and folded to make the card base. Then I trimmed some Bazzill pink textured cardstock to 4″x5.25″ for a background. The flower is made of ribbon from Michaels and Prima blossoms held together with a flower brad. The chipboard flourishes and tag are Heidi Grace add-ons from Fiskars (THANK YOU, Ellen!). The sentiment is a clear stamp from Scrappy Cat by Darice and stamped with Ranger Archival ink in Jet Black. My flourish and sentiment were rearranged a little from the sketch to better fit my card. The chipboards are self-adhesive and the background was attached with Tombow adhesive.

Special thanks to my MIL, Linda, for the loan of the happy little bunny to introduce this card to you.
Thanks for stopping by! Happy Crafting!

Steampunk Honeymoon—Smeared and Smudged Ink Member Blog Hop January 2011

The theme for this first member blog hop of the new year is “New”. Try something you haven’t before. I’ve been wanting to give Steampunk a try but first I have to tell you—> this project was originally a wallhanging mixed media, then an art quilt or tote, and finally, I settled on Steampunk. Then I wondered, “how would a steampunk couple take a honeymoon?” And here is kind of what I saw–I can see it evolving further but here’s my first try.

Steampunk Honeymoon

The basket stamp is from Great Impressions. The clock with wings stamp is from a rock and roll clear stamps set (EDIT: from Hampton Art). The background is a freebie from Postscript at Stampington and Co. printed on copy paper and attached to a 4″x6″ chipboard.  Ranger Archival Black Ink and Vintage Photo distress ink. The photo is a scan and altered one I had (they had a son but I didn’t figure he would go on this adventure ;)). Various watch parts and silver plastic beading chain held down with E6000. Hope you enjoy. I apologize for the late morning post. Please be sure to visit all the blogs as listed on the right for some wonderful projects and inspiration! Happy Crafting! P

Smeared and Smudged Ink 12th Day of Christmas blog hop

As all good things must come to an end, this is the final day of the Jolly Blogger’s 12 Days of Christmas blog hop at Smeared and Smudged Ink.  I hope you have enjoyed my creations that I’ve shared.  I know I’ve certainly enjoyed participating  and reading the kind comments that have been left.  It is awesome to see a count of all the visits to the blog this month.  I hope that you’ll continue to return and maybe I’ve provided a bit of inspiration or a smile.  And if you haven’t, please follow the blog hop blog roll at right to check out the awesome pieces each of the bloggers have shared and leave them some love.  You’ll be glad you did!

Today is a Smeared Ink challenge day and I have one last Grumpie to share for the holidays.

Smeared Ink challenge Day 12–Grumpie Style

Today I played a bit with paper piecing.  All of the papers are Basic Grey from the Eva collection.  The big whopper Grumpie from the Lil Occasions Grumpies set by Smeared Ink was stamped with Archival ink by Ranger in Jet Black on each of the 3 papers.  The sentiments are from the same set and stamped on the green page only.  The green page and background page have a mottled effect that drew me to them but it doesn’t show up as well on the finished project.  I cut out the green fellow with his fish hat but cut out the fish eye for the next layer.  I cut out the fish only from the polka dotted layer, then layered them all in place and adhered over the stamped image on the background page.  The background page had been torn to size to create a deckle edge around it first.  The sentiments were cut out and adhered.  Then the final  touch was Diamond Stickles to highlight parts of the fish and the sentiments.  He hopped into the tree and I took his picture.

Enjoy your holidays, wherever and however you celebrate.  A very Merry Christmas to everyone and a blessed & happy New Year 2011.  Party like a Grumpie! But remember that Grumpies live to party another day, so don’t drink and drive! Thanks for visiting.  P.

Smeared & Smudged Ink Day 10 of the 12 Days of Christmas

Today I have a simple Santa tag. The image is a digi freebie from http://digitaltuesday.blogspot.com/ Holiday Trio 7.

Thanks for sharing it!

Smeared & Smudged Ink Day 10, Merry Christmas Santa tag

The tag base is a manila shipping tag covered with green polka dot patterned paper. I used Stazon Forest Green ink to stamp the Inkadinkado Pine trees across the top, stamping off the shadowed pieces. Santa was colored with Bic Mark It markers and cut out around the frame. The lovely ribbon was a gift from Ellen (THANK YOU!) and adhered using Scotch ATG gun. The tag and the Santa were both edged with the Forest Green ink prior to assembly. Thanks for stopping by and all of your kind comments! I have something different in mind for Tuesday so I hope you’ll stop by then too. Be sure to follow the links to the right and visit all of the blogs on the blog hop. Leave ’em some love (it will be easy to do) for a chance to win a prize from Smeared Ink. Happy Crafting! Paula

PS. And if you haven’t checked out my Twisted Sketches DT card using card sketch #38, please look below.  The sketch link is included in the post.  😉

Day 9 Smeared & Smudged Ink Jolly Blogger’s 12 Days of Christmas

Grumpie's Blue Christmas

Welcome to Day 9 of the Smeared & Smudged Ink 12 Days of Christmas, Jolly Blogger’s blog hop (http://www.smearedandsmudged.ning.com ) ! Be sure to visit each of the blogs on the right ———->
and see the fantastic work each of the bloggers has prepared & shared. Today is a Smeared Ink day (http://www.smearedink.com ) and I’ve prepared a Grumpies tag. Poor fellow is having a bit of a blue Christmas. The background is white cardstock embossed with Perfect Petals  Petals a Plenty Sizzix embossing folder from Stampin’ Up. I inked the raised surface to get the color inside the embossed portion. The tree is dark blue cardstock cut with Cuttlebug Disney cut and emboss set. Grumpie is Smeared Ink Grumpies Lil Occasions set stamped with Archival Ink from Ranger in Sepia and colored in with Bic Mark Its. The cap was stamped again, colored, fussy cut and layered. The overall image was partially fussy cut and then Grumpie was covered with green Sparkle Writer glitter glue from Studio G. Hope you enjoy and that you’re safe & warm! Happy Crafting, Paula

Day 8 Smeared and Smudged Ink’s Jolly Blogger 12 Days of Christmas

Checking it twice

Happy middle of December! Ten days until Christmas! So like lots of us (me anyway), the right jolly fellow is checking his list.
The tag base is DCWV from the Christmas Combo stack, cut to 3″ x 6″. I’m disappointed to find that I do not know the manufacturer of this stamp–it isn’t on the block and I purchased this from a friend. The sentiment was received in a swap. So I apologize. Meanwhile Santa is stamped in Inkadinkado Black dye ink and colored in with markers, except the skintones which are Peach watercolor crayons from Staedtler as you’ve seen me use before. He’s fussy cut and attached before the sentiment is mounted and attached. (BTW–he is cut straight.  That’s what happens when you take a photo of something on your lap instead of finding a level surface.  Will try to retake later.)  Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to visit the other blogs and comment for your chance to win! Time to go get some groceries before the next snowfall! Happy crafting, P.

Day 7–Jolly BLogger–Smeared and Smudged Ink

Four calling birds

Welcome back to the Jolly Blog 12 Days of Christmas Blog hop! Be sure to check out the fabulous work each of the bloggers have for you by following the links to the right OR start at http://smearedandsmudged.ning.com/page/12-days-of-christmas.
Today I have a tag again. The base is a manila shipping tag, 2 3/8″ by 4 3/4″, to which I adhered cardstock from DCWV The Christmas Combo stack and trimmed to fit. I edged it with Archival Ink–Sepia. I also used this ink to stamp the REJOICE sentiment from  Studio G/Hampton Art. The birds are a digi stamp from Beccy (find it here: http://beccysplace.blogspot.com/2010/11/four-calling-birds.html ) in her 12 Days of Christmas series. I colored them with Bic Mark It markers and fussy cut the results. The halo is traced with Distress Stickles and all was adhered with my ATG gun. Hope you like it and that your day is happy! Happy Crafting, P!

PS. Be sure to check out the updates for the Santa/Father Christmas tag post ;). We had a power outage on Sunday that threw everything out of whack! Bless the AEP fellows and their families that shared them with us to get us back to warm and electrified!

Jolly Blogger Smeared & Smudged Ink 12 Days of Christmas DAY 5 UPDATED

Say that 3 times fast! Or even one!

Jolly Blogger Day 5

Just a quick post. If you would like more details, LOOK BELOW!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and this is my entry for today’s blog hop. Something a little different for me and I’ve not quite got the hang of it but here ya go. Suggestions and feedback are welcomed! Be sure to check out the fabulous stuff the other bloggers have for you by following the links to the right there ========>

HERE’s the goods:  The base is a 3″x6″ piece of Bristol paper. I used embossing ink pad and stamped the Inkadinkado Father Christmas collage clear stamp (this is from a set so I’m not certain the name of this exact stamp) and the sentiment & added embossing powder, that I thought was white but turned out to be clear.  After setting that with a heat gun and letting it cool,  I used a bristle brush (the kind that looks like a shaving brush) with red and then another with green pigment inks, alternating for a diagonal striped effect. .  Then for the red, I also  added Stazon Blazing Red and Tattered Angels, Mint Green, glimmer mist over the green.  The jolly fellow didn’t show as I wanted, so since it was a clear stamp, I overstamped that with Archival ink in black.  The trees at the bottom are Stampin’ UP from the Loads of Love set, stamped with Stazon Forest Green.  Some were stamped without reinking to add dimension.

I played around with it more later and edged it with green pigment ink & added a ribbon, but sent it off to a friend without taking a picture.  After I finish up some work, I will try to make another and post since I liked that finish better.  LOL

Jolly Blogger 12 Days of Christmas, Smeared & Smudged Ink Style, DAY 4

The Christmas Gift Assembler

Hello all, Merry Hoppers! Time for Day 4 in the Jolly Blogger 12 Days of Christmas at Smeared and Smudged Ink (www.smearedandsmudged.ning.com) . Today is a Smeared Ink extra challenge day. My entry isn’t overtly Christmas-y but was inspired by actual events. tee hee.
I have a 3″x 6″ tag in white cardstock, topped with a 2.75″ x 5.75″ red cardstock, added a few strips of electrical tape and then the fun begins! Fervently working to get those gifts assembled is the Mad Scientist, a digi stamp from Smeared Ink (find him here: www.smearedink.com alone or with a whole set of goodies). I colored him in with Cretacolor AquaMonolith watercolor pencils except his skin tone is Peach Karat Aquarell watercolor crayon by Staedtler. I trimmed him out with my Cutterbee scissors and trimmed the top off the test tube in his left hand. Tipped his gift parts to be assembled, hair and eyebrows with black glitter glue from JoAnn’s. I generated the sentiment in Microsoft Word in Biondi font, size 12 or 14, and Bold print. Tore those for a deckled edge and tipped with a black Sharpie to highlight the charred bits of his hair and soot smudges on his face. There’s a bit of the bricked wall from Day 3 on popdots down in front. And the inspiration?  A drum set my brother received and a busted lip when someone realized the drum head was installed backwards & that was why the spring had to be trimmed.  It wasn’t quite stretchy enough to protect Santa’s chief helper. Be sure to check out my latest Twisted Sketches DT card, two posts below.   Hope you enjoy! Happy Crafting, P.
